INTERVIEW
reflection
To start off the interview, I introduced myself to him and told him my reason for wanting to interview him which was that I felt we were similar in what he does and what I want to do in my career. He told me about himself and how he was a full time actor and does some freelance graphic design on the side. After our short introduction I asked my first question which was; “What are some tasks or duties that most people may not think they have to do when entering this field?” His response was very detailed and great knowledge because his response simplified was that Graphic Design is a broad field so those duties and tasks for each job would be different but for him he said that something that caught him off guard when he first started was having to pick up unfinished projects and incorporate their style when completing their unfinished work. At this time I mentioned Piper Graphics which was not a program when he went to Piper, he thought it was a really cool thing that we press shirts and design real world things. Our next question that I asked was; “Is some sort of out of school internship/experience needed in order to find a job straight out of college?”, he responded with that he only had done two internship/experiences, one he did for his senior project and the other with his college theater program where he designed graphics for set. After that question I decided to audible and start asking questions about acting! I introduced what I knew and my experiences in the acting industry and I asked him my first question which was, “What is the day of the life look like on set for a commercial?” He told me that it was really nice and everyone treats you amazingly. He gave me a cliche advice but he said it was very valid in that you should always show up prepared and have your lines memorized. After he answered my question I told him more about my experiences and how it is a delight to be on set even though I have not had as much experience as he has and that led my into my final question which was, “How involved are you with IFCKC?” for context, IFCKC is the main filmmaker group in Kansas City and he said he has a couple of friends who are involved in that but he hasn’t gone to a meeting himself. He mentioned that he wanted to go to the next meeting next week but he thinks it's great that I know a lot of the main things needed to succeed as an actor and with that we said our farewell and ended the interview with a lot of knowledge gained.
